For Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and Point-to-Point Fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) applications, Billion will launch the world’s first GPON Optical Network Terminal (ONT) with mini IP-PBX functions – the BiPAC 9300VN(X)L (Wireless-N GPON VoIP Gateway (with USB 2.0 host) and BiPAC 9800N Wireless-N point-to-point Fiber Gateway. Billion will also unveil its latest router with 3G embedded – BiPAC 7800GZ (3G/HSPA embedded ADSL2+ Wireless Router).
Additionally, Billion will showcase a wide range of new HomePlug AV products including BiPAC 2073N, a 200Mbps Ethernet-over-power adapter with an integrated 802.11n Access Point that enables users to easily set up a data network and extend wireless coverage through in-home power lines.
GPON is a cost-effective solution for point-to-multipoint; fiber-to-the-premises access network architecture in which passive optical splitters are used to allow a single optical fiber to serve up to 128 premises. Compliant with the ITU-T G.984 GPON standards, the device supports maximum downstream rates up to 2.5Gbps and upstream rates up to 1.25Gbps with maximum transmission distance up to 20km. With this technology, ISPs and Telcos (operators and carriers) can offer greater bandwidth over greater distances to deliver diversified multimedia services to end customers.
“With these products, we took the opportunity to use our strengths in GPON/Fiber ONT products to address FTTx market demands. The range of BiPAC GPON/Fiber routers and VDSL2 products that Billion will introduce at Computex 2009 showcases our business development and product focus.” says Mr. Ted Ho, Vice President of Billion’s Communication Division.
The BiPAC 9300VN(X)L is a GPON integrated access device (IAD) with BroadLight’s BL2348 System-on-Chip solution embedded, a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch and Wi-Fi 802.11n access point. The BiPAC 9300VN(X)L is compliant with SIP standard (RFC3261) and supports SIP registrar. Uniquely, the gateway is that it can be used as a mini IP-PBX supporting up to 20 user accounts for SIP extensions and two SIP accounts for making economical VoIP calls via Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSP). This router series integrates two FXS ports allowing users to make or receive phone calls over the Internet simply by connecting the device to their existing telephone set. This state-of-the-art feature is ideal for SOHO users, delivering free communication between branch offices and client sites.
In order to meet the ITU-T G.984.4 requirements for OMCI (ONT Management Control Interface), and defined compatibility and message transfer between OLT and ONT, and Management Information Base (MIB) physical device management, the BiPAC 9300VN(X)L uses OpenCon’s OMCI management. This tool is field-proven and interoperable with other GPON Systems with OMCI capabilities for both OLT and ONT equipment and is approved by the Full Service Access Network (FSAN) Group.
The BiPAC 9800N is a point-to-point (P2P) Fiber Gateway – featuring a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch, Firewall and Wi-Fi 802.11n access point. The device can be used to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications and offers seven different optical connectors for Fiber WAN interface transceivers: 100/1000BASE-BX (single-mode single fiber transceiver), 100/1000BASE-LX (single-mode dual fiber), 100BASE-FX (multi-mode dual fiber), and 100/1000BASE Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP). Moreover, the BiPAC 9800N supports remote management on end-user devices, which is available upon request for Telcos/ISPs projects to tightly manage FTTH service delivery.
VDSL2 (Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line 2) is the next generation of VDSL technology for the Digital Home. The BiPAC 8200M (VDSL2 modem) and BiPAC 8200N (Wireless-N VDSL2 router) support the highest rate of up to 100Mbps/100Mbps in VDSL2 Profile (30a) with a 6-band solution. The BiPAC 8200M supports both central office (CO) and customer-premises equipment (CPE) modes for point-to-point applications, while the BiPAC 8200N is capable of offering optimal speeds and coverage over the integrated wireless 802.11n access point. Since VDSL2 has the characteristic of faster rates over shorter distances, the ideal architecture for Telcoms is to use fiber optic lines as the backbone and a VDSL2 line as the last mile into the home or office. With outstanding throughput, the BiPAC 8200M and BiPAC 8200N can complement a fiber network to offer the best solution for delivering IPTV or home entertainment services.
In response to the popularity of mobile broadband access, Billion will also demonstrate a new 3G router supporting High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) protocols – the BiPAC 7800GZ (3G/HSPA embedded ADSL2+ Wireless Router). The router offers users the ability to insert a 3G/HSPA SIM card into its built-in SIM slot instead of requiring external USB modems. With the increasing popularity of the 3G standard, communication via the BiPAC 7800GZ is becoming more convenient and widely available - enabling users to use a 3G/UMTS HSDPA/HSUPA or GSM GPRS/EDGE Internet connection, making downstream rates up to 7.2Mbps and uplink rates up to 5.76Mbps possible. Planned support for auto fail-over means that users will be assured of a constant Internet connection - in the event that the ADSL line fails, the BiPAC 7800GZ will connect via the embedded 3G card to deliver uninterrupted connectivity.
Powerline Communications (PLC) is another product focus. Billion will showcase the most up-to-date HomePlug AV Ethernet adapters including the BiPAC P106, a standard product pack including a pair of Wall-Plug type Ethernet Adapters – BiPAC 2073 and BiPAC 2074. The adapter features Smart Power Saving, which automatically detects the link status of connected devices and adjusts its power consumption whether the current usage is in standby mode or full operation - thus enhancing power efficiency and saving money on electricity bills. The most state-of-the-art model is the BiPAC 2073N (Wireless-N HomePlug AV 200 Wall Plug Ethernet Adapter). Compliant with the latest HomePlug AV standards, which support data speeds of up to 200Mbps, the BiPAC 2073N can be used to bridge Ethernet devices such as modems, routers, PCs, set-top-boxes, and game consoles, allowing users to share network access via existing in-home power cabling. Its built-in 802.11n Access Point enables users to enjoy mobile, high-speed wireless connection and better coverage.
Billion has also launched an array of SSL VPN series such as BiGuard S5, BiGuard S10, BiGuard S20, and wireless BiGuard S100N aimed at the SMB market and enterprise-class SME Gigabit security gateway series - BiGuard S3000 and BiGuard S6000. Billion has continuously added the value of its SSL VPN range by offering BiGuard EZSiteConnect with site-to-site SSL VPN features, which will be available upon request by firmware upgrades to SSL VPN devices.
Traditionally, Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) was the only choice for a LAN-to-LAN VPN connection between head offices and its branch sites. The major problem of IPSec is that once IPSec VPN connection is established, two remote networks will be turned into one and this allows all users to access all the corporate subnets. Billion’s BiGuard EZSiteConnect supports site-to-site packet filtering for higher levels of security and flexibility, allowing limited exposure of specific internal resources to partner or supplier network environments. Additionally, Billion BiGuard EZSiteConnect offers a reliable backup solution with mesh VPN by connecting all networks to each other using redundant connections. Thus multiple routes are available between any two sites. If the main VPN connection is unavailable, BiGuard EZSiteConnect will automatically turn to another route to assure a constant VPN connection.
Since all traffic is tunneled over HTTPS (TCP port 443), a site-to-site VPN tunnel can transparently pass through the firewall, thus avoiding NAT traversal issues. It is especially suited for network environments and eliminates the need to change or configure complex NAT rules on firewalls and routers. It reduces administrative burden and cost of ownership.
The BiPAC 9300VN(X)L, BiPAC 8200M and the BiPAC 2073N are currently available for customer trials. Billion plans to roll out the BiPAC 9800N, BiPAC 8200N and BiPAC 7800GZ to the market in the third quarter of 2009.
